This bust talks about internal feelings of depression. How we feel dead on the inside as if the fire of our life force has gone out leaving nothing but a melted candle behind. Depression can make us feel as though our souls are dying. The bird skull trapped within the rib cage represents this sensation of withering away. However, this bust is not without hope, despite its representation of hopeless feelings. From death comes new life, and new growth. Those who are depressed are more than just their depression even though depression can result in a feeling of nothingness and is difficult to live with.
